Competence and trustworthiness are the key attributes to becoming influential in the workplace. People want to see you are someone they can rely on and feel comfortable working by your side.

The are two extremes to avoid if you want to achieve this goal of having an influence in the workplace. You should never be too aggressive nor too quiet to speak up in the workplace. With these two extremes people will never, ever see your true value.

So what then is the middle ground. Confidence, connection, and consistency are the most important things to achieve influence in the workplace. Thus, with these traits, you will earn the ability to be influential in the workplace.

Body language is very important. Everyone is looking at your body language even if you may not know it. Here is what you should do with your body – put your shoulders back, your head and chin up , and your hands to your side. With this posture you show that you are confident and friendly. If this is what is read in your body language, then it can help give you more influence in the workplace.

It is sometimes difficult to say no to other people. Saying yes all the time is not always good because there are times when no is the reality. You say yes if it is for the more important goals. Saying yes is good if you have plenty of time in your hands. If you are a nice person, you sometimes say yes to everyone without realizing that you will not be able to complete everything on time, especially the more important projects. Always saying yes to people will derail your goals. Make sure to focus on your goals so you will know when to say yes and when to say no.

You can become a trusted person if you learn to listen to others. Listen without distraction. Or, you can gain trust by building up your coworkers. If you produce consistent results then you can gain the trust of your superiors, colleagues and yourself. Results do matter in the workplace which is a competitive, goal-driven environment. Subpar work does not matter to anyone no matter how good you are.

It is important to enhance your skill set. Learn all you can about your field by reading books, watching videos, and conducting research. You can also ask someone to mentor you.

Gaining influence in the workplace will help you grow as well. The workplace should be a place where you have a good attitude about.
