To begin with, is the Canadian Lynx. The creature is much like the home cat but it is bigger in size. The animal can be identified by its long and pointy ears that help it to listen to its prey. The animal has thick fur that helps in its insulation in the snow. Its long legs enable it to run around the forest without struggling.
Another animal you are going to find in this area is the wolverine. The Wolverine is a hard animal to find but there several in this forested area. It is usually a fearless animal that will spend most of its time on a high elevation in search of food. The wolverine is identified by its muscular stock body, round eyes, light-colored facemask, and short legs. A judge in 2014 struck a law that the wolverine is one of the endangered species that risks extinction hence need for conservation.
Also on the list of majestic animals in the Rocky Mountains is the American Bison. This has come to be recognized as the largest North American mammal. The animal is recognized by its humped shoulders on its insulated body and its short curved horns. The dominant males in the herd fight to protect the females from other dominant males. They are usually herbivores and feed on the woody shrubs and grass. The American bison is such a famous animal such that even the former president Obama signed the National Bison Legacy naming it a National Mammal.
If you love to see Cougars, it is important that you visit the Rocky Mountains They have been referred by other names such as Pumas, Panthers but they are commonly known as the Mountain lions. The mountain lions are found all over the forest in their search for food. Though their population is not high, the Cougars are thriving well in the Rocky Mountains.
When you make a visit to this area, you will also find the bighorn sheep. These sheep are obviously recognized by their big horns and dark brown coat and white patches on their butts. They usually live in herds of about ten in number.
